2. Plug in the flash drive. In Explorer create something like USB:\Notes-transfer\current\. Optional but smart: tools\ with SEONoteInstall.exe (~2.45 MB) so the other PC is not hunting mirrors.
3. Copy the notes file into current\. Prefer copy (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V), not cut, until you have confirmed the stick copy opens. Do not grab a .tmp next to it.
4. If the file is large or the stick is cheap, wait until the copy dialog finishes. Then use Safely remove. Yanking mid-write is a classic way to “load” a half file.
5. On PC B: install SEO Note from tools\ if needed (same family works across Windows 7–11; see portable / Win7). Copy the file from the stick into Documents on that PC, then File → Open the disk copy. Opening only from a flaky stick as the live master is asking for corruption.
6. Find a note you wrote recently. Missing? Wrong file — stop before creating a second empty tree with the same name.
7. When you finish editing on PC B, Ctrl+S, copy back to current\ before you leave. One line in readme.txt: which machine saved last. Two silent masters are worse than one late bus.

Symptoms that the transfer failed

Small habits that keep transfers boring

Name the master file once and stop renaming it every Friday. Put the date in readme.txt or in archive zip names — not in five competing masters. If you edit on a hotel PC, copy back to the stick before you pack the bag; leaving the only newer copy on a machine you will never see again is how “I loaded the flash” becomes “I lost Tuesday.”

When the stick is also your backup medium, keep current\ for the live courier copy and a separate archive\ for dated zips. Transfer overwrites current on purpose. Archive should not get deleted just because the transfer succeeded. That split sounds pedantic until the day current is a half-written file and archive still has last Sunday.
